THE LE TOUR REVENGE 2019
In July 2019 the City of Sound, Struer and f Sports Group arranged the one-day street cycling race the Le Tour Revenge for the first time. The peloton consisted of 50 riders in total, including the Danish tour-riders and international stars. The race was free to attend for all the spectators.
The race took place on the 30th of July and up to 15,000 spectators came to watch all the amateur riders and the Danish riders from the Tour de France 2019. The Danish riders came directly from the Tour and were ready to give the Danish cycling fans an exciting experience. Racing in the City of Sound were Michael Valgren (Dimension Data), Lars Bak (Dimension Data), Michael Morkov (Deceuninck Quick-Step), Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck Quick-Step) and Mads Würtz Schmidt (Katusha-Alpecin).
Because of his incredible 2019 spring season, the Astana-rider Jakob Fuglsang was a favorite to win this year’s Tour de France and he was very much looking forward to participating in the street race in Struer. Unfortunately, he had an incident during the Tour de France, which resulted in his exit from the race. But this didn’t stop him from showing up and greeting all the Danish fans in Struer, just without racing. Before the race was kicked off, he was driven around in an open sports car, being celebrated by all the spectators.
It was a perfect evening with food, music and world-class cycling. The race was exciting, and all the riders gave their very best. But only one could claim the victory and it ended up being the Deceuninck Quick-Step rider Kasper Asgreen.
Volunteers and Partnerships
The race wouldn’t be possible without the help from our fantastic volunteers from the local cycling clubs, Struer Cycling Club and Holstebro Cykle Club. And of course, the support from Struer Municipality and our amazing sponsors:
- SengeSpecialisten
- Energi Danmark
- BT
- Apollo
- Struer Energi
The sponsors got massive exposure with all the riders mentioning the race on their media channels, articles in local and national newspapers and large banners throughout the route. Not least the race was broadcasted live on DR3.
