Branding of the capital of Denmark in the U.S.

Caroline Wozniacki and Wonderful Copenhagen entered into a partnership in July 2023 after Caroline’s announcement of her comeback to professional tennis.

The purpose of the partnership is to get more Americans to open their eyes for the street kitchens, finer gastronomy and the special Copenhagen lifestyle, where the locals bike everywhere and swim in the harbour.

Wozniacki to be the front figure in a new campaign from Wonderful Copenhagen with the slogan ‘How to Copenhagen with Caroline’. The campaign consists of a series of videos, where Caroline and her American husband, the former NBA basketball player David Lee, utilises the many opportunities and activities Copenhagen offers. The campaign is implemented within the framework of the national brand strategy for Denmark.

The campaign to be launched in August 2023 in connection with US Open, which is one of Caroline’s very first tournaments back. Through the campaign’s videos the Americans will see Caroline and David exercising in Nordhavn, having dinner at Refshaleoen, swimming in the harbour and transporting themselves through the city on a bike and via the harbour ferries.

“I have a great personal relation to Copenhagen and Denmark. Copenhagen is one of my absolute favorite cities in the world. Therefore, I’m very much looking forward to show what it is that makes the capital of Denmark so fantastic and unique. I want to show people in the U.S. that this is a big city and something very special. Together with David I will come around and experience Copenhagen in our own way and create videos along the way for the Americans to see what Copenhagen has to offer and why the city must be experienced,” says Caroline Wozniacki.

The primary target group of this campaign is Americans in the age of 30 to 55 years who live in the big cities New York and Los Angeles, who interest wise match Copenhagen, and who is interested in experiencing authentic and unique travel destinations all year round.

“Caroline Wozniacki is a strong and trending name internationally, which we are looking forward to putting in front of our new campaign in the U.S. After some difficult years with the pandemic the competition between the big cities around the world attracting international tourists is immense. The United States has historically been an important market for the capital’s tourism, and this will strengthen with the new campaign, which runs from late summer through to fall for us to focus on attracting American guests spread throughout the year,” says Rikke Holm Petersen, Communications- and Marketing Director, Wonderful Copenhagen.

The campaign consists of a series of videos of 10 to 30 seconds long, which from mid-August through to fall will be shown on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube and simultaneously to Caroline Wozniacki’s apprx. 1.3 million followers on Instagram. The campaign will be supported with additionally banner ads and new guides on Wonderful Copenhagen’s social media and websites.
